Jewelry for the nose comes in many forms. The nose rings are made on one of two sides: in the nostril or in the septum. The septum, or the cartilaginous part that separates the nostrils, is typically pierced with a ring or horseshoe ring. The jewels of the nose, however, vary in size, type and decoration. Nose nails, rings, and other plethora of jewelry exist to outfit nose piercings. When a nose piercing heals, typically between one and four months, according to Elayne Angel in "The Body Piercing Bible," you can begin to think about changing your jewelry for a ring-shaped ring.
Instruction:
1.Wash your hands using soap and water, washing for about 15 to 20 seconds. This removes the oils, germs and microorganisms from your hands.
2. Wear a pair of latex gloves, if you are concerned about contamination of the area or you are difficult to grab slippery jewelry.
3. Clean the area of the piercing with a sterile towel of saline solution. Clean the area around too. Use a second towel to clean the jewel that is already in your nose.
4. Get the jewel out of your nose. Screwed nails are removed by turning the jewel and pulling. Bone-style ones may require a bit more finesse to pull out. If you need added lubrication to push the jewel out of the piercing, use another sterile towel.
5. Clean the cheap nose ring by using a towel. If it is a captive pearl style ring, remove the pearl and clean the surfaces. If the ring is disc style, clean all surfaces as best you can.
6. Slide one end of the ring into the hole. Calm your hand and move gently and slowly. Do not force the jewel to enter, this can cause trauma to the piercing and a lot of pain.
7. Adjust the jewel in place if necessary. A captive pearl ring requires that it be put into place, where it is held by the inherent tension of the ring. Disc style rings do not require any additional adjustment.
8. Clean the piercing with a new sterile towel. Discard any used towels and gloves.
Advice:
If you feel uncomfortable with changing your jewelry at home or can not grab the little jewel usually used for nose piercing, talk to your piercer. Most of them will be more than happy to change your jewelry and show you how to do it correctly.
